In the business of liking people
I know someone who’s quite happy in his highly demanding job. When asked how he does it, he replied, “I like the people I work with.” Maybe it’s not quite what I expected. Would it be surprising that people at this company like him, too?
On the other hand, my mom always told me if you like people, you’ll do good in life.
It got me thinking about something so obvious and, simultaneously, universally unknown—it’s hard to succeed in life, career and relationships if you’re not a people-lover.
Okay, you can be successful without it, but it hits differently when you’re interested in folks and get a sparkle in your eyes from helping others.
The bad news is that you can’t fake it. But that’s also the good news. If it’s from the heart, they’ll know.
When it comes to business, to do well, you've got to get into the business of liking people.
